Science is fascinating! I love it. Scientists are wonderful people. I enjoy talking to them. The amount of time, dedication and sacrifice it takes to become a really good scientist is astounding. For such dedication scientists should be held in high regard. In many places and many ways they are highly regarded as well as highly compensated. That is as it should be. Scientists earn their keep.
Almost every person alive on Planet Earth is the beneficiary of advances that resulted from scientific research. Automobiles, air crafts, water crafts, telephones, electricity and many other objects and processes we have become accustomed to using are the results of scientific research. If it is "modern" science (more specifically, scientists) probably played a part in its development. Many of us wait with enthused expectation for the next "big discovery" or scientific development. The work of scientists has led to ecstatic glee in the eyes of millions of children and adults alike.
Many scientists are God-fearing men and women. They both know and love God. It is a great joy to find a Godly scientist. I encounter them on the internet, on college campuses and in regular life. They are most encouraging and refreshing.
My concern, though, is for the many scientists who do not know God and seem bent on defying Him. I was most appalled to find (while enjoying some scientific astronomical materials) that bodies discovered in the universe are being named after mythological "gods" - - better referred to as "idols". As I thought on the matter my disappointment almost brought me to tears. The thought, "Tears for Scientists" came into my mind. This website is a result of that experience and that distressing thought.
Tears for scientists? Yes, "Tears for Scientists". Why? Because they are so dedicated, so useful, so productive, so helpful - - and yet many are so lost. Why tears? Tears because many of them apparently have the audacity to attach to bodies in the universe the names of idols. To me that represents defiance of God - - and it is dangerous - - very dangerous! I fear God. I know God and I fear Him. Thus, any practice of scientists - - or anyone else - - that has the potential to displease God is, to me, very disturbing and worthy of my tears.
